Coyotes in Loft Ridge
Fairfax County officials have
verified that coyotes are present in Fairfax County, as well as in Loft
Ridge. Several residents have now reported seeing coyotes on both
sides of our community (one was spotted by two board members running across
lower Ridge View Drive on October 1st, and another was seen in the woods
behind Evergreen Knoll Court on September 30th.)
Coyotes
are shy when it comes to people and do not pose a threat to adults or
children. However,
while coyotes will avoid contact with humans and usually run as soon as they
see a person approaching, their diet includes cats and small dogs!
PLEASE, do not allow your cats or dogs to roam or run freely; they could easily wander into a coyote's territory and end up as prey.
For more information on coyotes, click on the Coyote link to the left.
