Converter Box Blues
July 2008
For
those who are planning to use a converter box for watching
television after the switchover to HDTV, please be aware that for
those who do not have cable, you will need to have an attic or roof
antenna installed in order to see anything (the roof antenna
installation is recommended, as it will provide better reception).
While the antenna itself will only run about $25, the
cost to have it installed in your attic or on your roof can cost as
much as $350-$399! (This estimate is based on a June 2008
quote from Fairfax Antenna Company; visit www.fairfaxantenna.com).
Since it's
not as simple as purchasing a converter box and hooking it up to
your non-HDTV, you may want to start planning well before the
February 2009 switchover!
